The value of sleep
I decided I wanted to be a part of this mission, and I decided I wanted to help other people. Nine years later, here we are: I went on to use the Habits of Health system and philosophies to lose 55 pounds* after my first son. Now I have a seven-month-old, and I’ve lost another 30 or 35* just using the Habits of Health and living the lifestyle that Dr. A teaches us.
When I began my journey with Dr. A, I was working sixty hours a week, six days a week, commuting at least an hour and half each way. Sleep was put on the back burner. I think what Dr. A teaches about how to create the rituals to wind down and then also to wake up were really impactful for me. I learned how much better I can be when I am awake if I value my sleep in the ways that he teaches.

I definitely identified with the healthy mind aspect. At 21, you don’t have a lot of experience learning sustainability with your mindset, and you don’t know a lot about sleep, at least in my experience. Those were parts of the Habits of Health that really impacted me as I got older, and it gave me the ability to have more sustainable energy. I had the energy to be a coach and do what I love, be the mom I want to be, the wife I want to be, and the friend I want to be.
*In a clinical study, the group on the Optimal Weight 5 & 1 Plan® lost 10x more weight than the self-directed group. Average weight loss on the Optimal Weight 5 & 1 Plan is 12 pounds.
Living an active life
I actually grew up in a family that ate really healthily. We had a garden before ‘organic’ was cool. I married into a family that had learned the value of their health by the time that I met them. It was a very easy transition to go from how I grew up into joining with a family that also valued the same things. Even our holidays or family gatherings are a lot more active, and our vacations don’t tend to be us necessarily sitting around very much.
We’re paddle boarding or kayaking, we are out walking and playing, and all of our extended family has the energy to keep up with our two young sons. And that part of the Habits of Health has impacted all parts of our family on both sides so that we can keep up with the future generations that we seem to keep producing.
It gave me the ability to have a more sustainable energy and the energy to be a coach and do what I love, be the mom I want to be, the wife I want to be, the friend I want to be.
Dr.A's system helps me help others
What was hurting me was to see other people who didn’t have that type of upbringing, not knowing where to even begin. I knew how good I felt doing that, and I saw what Dr. A taught us with the Habits of Health. With my childhood and his philosophies merging at such an early point in my life, I saw the ability to actually help other people to experience what I knew was so healthy and has really helped me be my best.
